Roulette odds: What are my chances of winning?

If you are about to bet real money on roulette games, it is of utmost importance that you familiarize yourself with the chances of winning each game. This is especially relevant for roulette – a game where each bet has a specific mathematical probability of winning. Of course, these odds are affected by the type of roulette you play and the additional rules that apply to it.

As you probably already know, European roulette has better odds for the player than American roulette. In addition, a European roulette game with the « split » and « jail » rules will have a lower house advantage than without them. Understanding these odds and probabilities is paramount if you want to start winning big at roulette. This is why we have prepared this informative article for you.

Note: This article only covers the odds and odds of the various roulette bets and not all the rules of the game in general. If you want to learn the absolute basics of the game, we recommend that you first read our article on the rules of roulette .

Roulette payout and probability of roulette bets

In the game of roulette there are two main groups of bets: outside bets and inside bets. Names are derived from betting positions on the table layout. Outside bets have more chances to win, but much lower winnings. Domestic bets, on the other hand, are less likely to win, but have considerably higher payouts. See the table we have prepared for the percentages of each bet you can place at roulette.

Odds and payouts for outside bets

Even money roulette betting – Odds and payouts

People who like to gamble safely prefer outside bets because they have a much better chance of winning. The most popular of these are known as « same money » bets, as they cover about half of the possible outcomes – except for the number zero (and double 0 in American roulette). All even roulette bets are red or black, even or odd, 1-18 or 19-36.

All these bets have a chance of winning almost 50%. To be precise, « even money » bets have a 48.65% chance of winning at European roulette and 47.37% at American roulette. Due to the high probability of these bets, the payout for them is 1:1.

Other outside bets are Column and Dozen, both of which cover 12 numbers on the table. This is about a third of all possible outcomes, a little less because of the zero and double zero slots. You can bet on the first, second or third dozen numbers (1-12, 13-24, 25-36), or on the first, second or third column. The odds for these bets are 32.43% in European roulette and 31.58% in American roulette. As a result, this bet will pay you more winnings – the payout for Column and Dozen is 2: 1.

Odds and payouts for internal bets

Domestic bets include bets on a single number or on a small group of them. There are different ways of grouping your numbers, but they are all related to the position of the numbers on the table. As we have already mentioned, indoor bets have a much lower chance of winning than outdoor bets, but their payouts are much, much better.

Straight bets on a specific number, and is also called a single number bet. Naturally, this bet has the lowest probability of winning and the highest payout – 35: 1. The probability of the ball falling into the specific pocket you bet on is 2.70% in Europe and 2.63% in American Roulette.

Split means betting on two numbers out of the 37 available, but with one condition – the numbers you choose must be next to each other on the table. The payout for this bet is 17:1, and the odds of winning are 5.41% in European roulette and 5.26% in American roulette.

Street is a three-digit bet, where players bet on a row of numbers – for example, 4, 5 and 6, or 19, 20 and 21. The probability of this bet winning is 8.11% in Europe and 7.89% in American roulette. The payout for winning a street bet is 11:1.

Corner means betting on four numbers that form a square on the table, such as 1, 2, 4 and 5, for example. This bet pays 8:1 and the odds of it happening are 10.81% on European roulette and 10.53% on its American counterpart.

Double Street is exactly what it looks like – you bet on two rows of numbers, a total of 6 numbers. The payout is 5:1 and the odds are 16.22% and 15.79% for European and American roulette respectively.

The basket, or five-digit bet, is only available in American Roulette and allows players to bet on zero, double zero, 1, 2 and 3. The probability of winning this bet is 13.16% and payout – 6: 1.

Odds and payouts of bets called

Also known as « advertised » bets, these bets are a little different from the ones we explained above. Called bets are exclusive to European / French roulette, and the numbers they contain are combined according to the positions on the roulette wheel – not the table. There are two types – fixed and variable called bets. Let’s take a look at the patches first.

Neighbours of Zero is a bet that covers 17 numbers on the wheel, all close to the green zero. You will need to place at least 9 chips to cover all these numbers, and the odds of winning this bet are 45.9%. The payout is not fixed and can be as high as 24:1, depending on the winning number. This bet is also known as the « big series » bet.

The thirds of the wheel are the 12 numbers directly opposite the neighbours of zero. The odds here are 32.4% and the payout is set at 17: 1. This bet is quite similar to the dozen/column bets, at least in terms of odds and winnings.

Zero Game is a smaller version of the Neighbours of Zero, covering only 7 numbers close to green zero. The odds of this bet are 18.9% and the payout can be as high as 26:1.

The Orphans bet covers the numbers not mentioned so far in the called bets. The odds of winning this bet are 21.6% and the payout can be 35: 1 or 17: 1.

These are fixed-line bets. The variable type includes « neighbours », where a player places bets on 5 neighbouring numbers – the odds of winning are 13.5%. The other variable bet is known as « the final », where a player bets on the last number. Depending on the numbers, the probability can vary between 8.1% and 10.8%.

Online Roulette Odds: Questions and Answers

Finally, check out the following FAQ section! We’ve tried to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about roulette odds and winnings when you play online. The answers may include references to the main topics in this review or throughout this site, where you can find more information and interesting details.

How to get the best online roulette odds and winnings?

First of all, you need to know what the odds are in roulette based on the specific type of bet. The highest roulette odds (36 to 1) are for a single number bet and the lowest (1 to 1) are for outside bets like Odd / Even or Red / Black. Secondly, if you want to know which is the best bet to win at online roulette, keep in mind that the odds at European roulette are slightly better than those at the American table .

What are the odds of playing online roulette with strategy?

In general, the odds of online roulette bets do not change if you play with strategy. However, changing the strategy during the game is highly recommended as it improves your house advantage (not for the specific spin, but over the entire roulette session).

Where do the strategies for increasing roulette odds come from?

The two most popular roulette odds strategies include Martingale and Double-O-Seven systems. The Martingale roulette strategy originated in 18th century France and offers payout bets at equal odds, such as Red/Black. The Double-O-Seven strategy was invented by the author of the James Bond films and forces you to spread your bet in a very special way.

What are the chances of winning every time at online roulette?

The chances of winning at roulette every time are very low. It depends on the number that hits the most at the roulette wheel, so you can keep track of the hot and cold numbers and the complete history of your gambling session. For example, if you are playing European roulette (with 37 slots on the wheel) and you place your bet on a single slot machine, the probability of watching the ball land on the winning slot machine each time is 1 in 36, which is very low.

How do I calculate the roulette odds and their payouts?

Check out this roulette odds table where you can see the values of the two main types of table layouts – European and American. In addition, you can always use a betting odds calculator to track the rates throughout your gaming session. To calculate the payout for a single number bet on the European layout, you need to know that the odds in the roulette table are 36 to 1. You need to take 1 out of 36 to get 35, which is the payout rate. In a winning scenario of a single bet of £10, you would win £350 (£10 x 35).

Does Zero have the lowest odds at roulette?

The exceptionally high payout of 35: 1 is the main reason why players want to place an inside bet on the zero at European Roulette. However, the odds of hitting 0 in roulette are quite low (2.70%). However, these are the highest odds to win with this type of bet because the American version offers slightly lower odds (2.60%) due to the double zero slot machine. However, American Roulette has an exclusive bet (the basket) consisting of 0, 00, 1, 2, 3 with odds of 13.16% and a payout of 6: 1.

What is the highest odds probability in roulette?

48.60% are the odds on a roulette table for a wide range of outside bets. For example, bets including Even/Odd, Red/Black or Low/High offer the highest odds at roulette with a European (48.60%) and American (47.40%) layout. These roulette betting odds mean that your chance of winning is almost 50:50.
